Nola is based on a mural Banksy created in New Orleans in 2008, shortly after Hurricane Katrina. Painted on a wall in the city’s Lower Ninth Ward, one of the areas most affected by the disaster, the image depicts a young girl holding an umbrella while rain falls from beneath it rather than from the sky. The work quickly became one of the most poignant pieces from Banksy’s New Orleans series.

Rich in symbolism, Nola explores themes of vulnerability, resilience, and institutional failure. The umbrella, traditionally a symbol of protection, becomes ineffective, suggesting the shortcomings of systems meant to provide security during times of crisis. At the same time, the image captures a sense of quiet strength, reflecting the perseverance of communities rebuilding after tragedy.

The original mural was created as street art, and its powerful connection to a real historical event has helped make Nola one of Banksy’s most admired images. Limited edition prints are highly sought after by collectors due to their rarity, emotional depth, and cultural significance. Demand remains strong across the global art market, with many collectors viewing Nola as one of Banksy’s most moving and socially important works. Its combination of visual simplicity and lasting relevance continues to drive interest among both seasoned and new collectors.
